WR Ethical – Ethical Champions

We are extremely proud to announce that WR Ethical has won “Ethical Mortgage Broker of the Year 2023 – England & Wales” at the recent Ethical Finance Awards 2023. Having been contacted to enter these awards some months ago, the team endured a nervous wait to hear the results. After then receiving the wonderful news about our win a few weeks ago we suffered a second short wait until today to make the official announcement.

This win comes hot on the back of a recent award from VouchedFor as a top rated provider (for the second year in a row)

WR Ethical founder and the man with the vision behind the company, Paul Waterfall, picks up the story.

Looking into the judging process, it was particularly pleasing to see that our values backed up by demonstrable evidence from the past 12 months were recognised.

• Every review we’ve received has been 5 stars (and we ask everyone we give advice to review us – there’s no cherry picking)
• We’ve donated more than 5% of our turnover (not profit!) to charity
• We’ve given approximately 15% of our turnover back to customers as cashback

Further areas which impressed the judges included; ensuring that staff who work from home have a 100% renewable tariff, minimising the environmental impact of office space by not having a permanent office, only buying IT from the highest ranked ethical suppliers and making sure all staff have dual-sim phones (if they need to make work calls) so that two phones aren’t needed.

We believe that when doing good is easy, almost everyone does it. So, we aim to offer a service that is excellent value, simple and caring. However, we will have minimal impact if we remain a niche solution. So in order to make a difference, we price and organise ourselves in a way which means that everyone will use us, and others will imitate us – we do not charge a ‘green premium’ for our services.

We knit care for people and the planet into everything we do, so we’ll advise on the ethics of different mortgage providers and donate a good portion of our turnover to charity.

We want you to be informed, so you can make that choice for yourself. We will always find you the cheapest mortgage deal for your circumstances, and we know that money is tight, and choosing the cheapest mortgage will often make sense.

As well as finding the cheapest mortgage for anyone’s circumstances, we work with Ethical Consumer to find you the best value and environmentally-sound option. Ethical Consumer are a Manchester based non-profit co-operative, with a mission to make global business more sustainable.
